See more about this pub on CAMRA's national web site

Large town centre Grade II-listed pub which is one of Wetherspoon's flagship hotels. Formerly an important coaching inn, built in 16th and 17th centuries, with an 18th century façade. The main bar, which is always open, is on the right from the main entrance and has six handpumps with the three regular beers and three guest ales. A second bar, to the left, serves the same ales, and is open most of the time, bar some quieter winter periods. The three guest ales are often sourced from local breweries such as Loddon, Rebellion, Tring, Vale and Windsor & Eton.

At least three beer festivals are held every year, including the March and October national Wetherspoon events and the London breweries beer festival held at the end of January.

The pub has a large outdoor cobbled courtyard garden to the rear, with seating for up to 300, much of it covered. The hotel part has 30 competitively-priced en-suite rooms, some located in the original buildings above the bars, and some in a newer development around the courtyard garden.

The pub organises biweekly quiz nights and hosts a range of community events, such as charity fundraisers and family events.

Only assistance dogs are welcome - this is a Wetherspoon policy.

There is a defibrillator further up Hart Street on the crossroads by Starbucks.
