Popular, wet-led, 17th-century, Grade II-listed town pub retaining many original features such as exposed low beams, large fireplaces and an internal cellar. The large, fenced garden sits on probable Saxon-age town ramparts.
The house beer (Cross Keys - Howse Bitter, brewed by Amwell Springs) may on rare occasions be swapped with another local beer. Dark beers are often sold, plus limited edition beers from the Dead Brewers' Society.
Street food pop-ups are present at the rear of the pub from Wednesday to Sunday, the operators offer varying food choices - check the Facebook page for details including timings.
Reopened May 2022 having closed in April 2022 while the pub was refurbished inside and out following a change of ownership from the Brakspear pub co to Oak Taverns.
