Pack Saddle at MapledurhamChazey Heath
The Pack Saddle re-opened in December 2013 following a long closure for repair and refurbishment after the fire the previous February. Wadworth Brewery has relinquished the tenancy on this Mapledurham Estate's owned pub and it is now being run as a Freehouse, and has been renamed as the Pack Saddle at Mapledurham. The pub retains its inviting and welcoming environment and the layout is essentially the same as previously with the upper bar area serving three real ales. Loddon Hoppit is the standard beer, the other two usually include one locally-brewed from Loddon or West Berkshire or Wild Weather, etc. and the other is likely to be from farther afield, e.g. Sharp's. An innovative modern British menu using seasonal fresh ingredients, much from local producers, is an offer in the lower dining room area, with its roaring log fire, as well as the bar areas. A range of events are planned throughout the year for the large outdoor paddock area, including a Beer and Food Festival. The inside of the pub was redecorated in Feb 2015 with various shades of grey paint covering up the original wood panelling.
